surface project progress

For the surface assignment I have been working with white slip. I have made a few plates and bowls. i'm going to try to make a nice set that all have a little of the white slip on them. For the plates I went very simple and just put the slip on the edges and a little down the sides. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the bowls yet, but I'll figure something out. I might make some mugs and cups if I have enough time.

Last week we started the throwing project. Brian wants us to throw five of our best cylinders. I've probably thrown twenty trying to get the best ones I can. I'm not sure what he's going to have us do next, but I'm sure I will enjoy it.

Finishing Mixed Media

These are a few lamps I have been working on for the mised media project. I've never tried any combination vessels before and it's a process that will take time to get use to. Before the crit I'm going to get the materials to make them lamps and a lamp shade. Because the crit is for greenware the lamps will not be 100% done, but after they get fired I will finsh them. As for now I need to clean them up and finsh some small detail work before the crit.

Mixed Media

For my mixed media project I'm going to construct a lamp. These are the first three forms I threw now I'm waiting for them to dry. I'm not going to have the lamp working before the crit because it has to be greenware, but I will have all the hardware needed to constuct it. These may not be the forms I will use for the lamp. I'm going to continue to throw and see what I can come up with. With a week and a half until the crit I think I can have a few lamps to show.

These are my pictures from last weeks project. The vessels on the top are supposed to represent the verb twist. The small cup in supposed to represent the verd distort. I made four of the twist vessels and four of the distort cups.The next project is a mixed media project. I would like to keep throwing, but I'm not sure what to do yet. Brian was saying I sound think about displaying my work on a different media, but I'm still not sure what I want to do. I was thinking about constructing some kind of a lamp, but I'm not sure. I was feeling bad last class so I didn't get to make clay, but tomorrow in class I'm going to make clay and get started on the next project.

verb project

For the verb project I decided to to do two different verbs I chose "to twist" and "to distort". I chose two because want I was going to do for distort was easy and I wanted to do a little extra. For twist it was difficult to get the cylinder to twist in a way that looked intensional. I had a hard time being consistent, but after some trail and error I think I figure out a good way to achieve the twist. For distort I wanted to make some coffee mugs without handles, so I squeezed them and created a nice spot for your fingers to hold the mug. I tried to insert images, but my computer would not allow me to.

Finished Modules

Here are a few of my wood fire pieces. We unloaded the train kiln of tuesday and everything looked great. The top photo is my finished modules project. As for the next project I am throwing like a mad man to get a lot of work done before the wet ware cut off date. As of right now I plan to have the class use some of my pieces in some way. Maybe using some of my mugs and bowls.
